Flea prevention and treatment for your Cats and Dogs

Fleas and ticks are more than just a nuisance, they can actually pose a threat and danger to your cat or dog's health.

A flea infestation can seriously damage your cat or dog's skin, cause an allergic reaction or cause them to become anemic from blood loss. Though they may not be quite so dangerous as ticks in this aspect, fleas also have the potential to carry disease as well as other parasites like tapeworms.

Ticks on the other hand are a threat for a number of reasons and can cause 53 different types of diseases in the UK including some of the major diseases below :-

  • Lyme disease.
  • TBE
  • Luping ill
  • Anaplasmosis
  • Relapsing fever.
  • Babesiosis.

Though one tick will likely not drain your cat or dog of a significant amount of blood, large numbers of ticks can once again cause your cat or dog to become anemic. It can take a lot of ticks to do this, but it is not impossible.

One of the other potential threats is the possibility of tick-borne diseases. Ticks can carry diseases that pose a threat not only for your cat or dog but for you and your family as well. It is possible for your cat or dog to transport disease-carrying ticks into your home or garden, where these ticks may then attach to you or your family members, spreading diseases which, in some cases, can be quite serious.

When it comes to flea and tick control, prevention is always the best medicine but not all flea and tick control products are equal. Here at Romypets we have sourced some of the best products on the market including Spot On Treatments from Frontline, Beaphar Fiprotec and Johnsons.  We also also have a range of other preventative items such as cat or dog flea collars, household flea sprays, flea shampoos and the remarkable tickless ultrasonic flea and tick repeller, all to keep your cat or dog healthy and safe.
